Applications

6-Gingerol may reduce nausea caused by motion sickness or pregnancy and may also relieve migraine.
6-Gingerol has been used to induce a hypothermic state in rats. 6-Gingerol seems to be effective in an animal model of rheumatoid arthritis. The antioxidative effects of 6-gingerol were detected by DPPH and DCFH assays and, as predicted, 6-gingerol as an antioxidant was shown to protect HL-60 cells from oxidative stress. 6-Gingerol induced apoptosis in HL-60 cells, not due to its antioxidative activity.


6-Gingerol has been investigated for its effect on cancerous tumors in the bowel, breast tissue, ovaries, the pancreas, among other tissues, with positive results. The product is sometimes used for gingering of horses, a practice that is seen in the horse show world, illegal in some, but not all disciplines.
